60-Second Self-Assessment

Am I a candidate for Deep TMS?

Answer six quick questions. There is no commitment — your answers simply help you see whether Deep TMS is worth a conversation.

  • Have you tried two or more antidepressants without lasting relief?
  • Have your symptoms lasted six months or longer?
  • Is depression, anxiety, or OCD interfering with your daily life, work, or relationships?
  • Are you looking for a drug-free, non-invasive treatment option?
  • Have medication side effects been hard to tolerate?
  • Have you tried standard figure-8 TMS before without the results you hoped for?

What is Deep TMS?

Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (Deep TMS) is an FDA-cleared treatment that uses brief magnetic pulses — the same type and strength used in an MRI — to stimulate the brain regions that regulate mood. Unlike standard TMS, Complete Mind Care uses the BrainsWay H-Coil, a patented helmet-shaped coil that reaches deeper and broader into the limbic structures involved in depression and OCD.

It is non-invasive and drug-free. There is no anesthesia, no sedation, and no recovery time. You sit comfortably in a chair, awake and alert, while the device delivers pulses to a precisely mapped target. Because nothing enters your bloodstream, Deep TMS avoids the systemic side effects of medication — no weight gain, no fatigue, no sexual dysfunction.

The clinical evidence

Outcomes that change the conversation

Results vary by individual, but published BrainsWay Deep TMS data is among the strongest in interventional psychiatry.

Not all TMS is the same

Deep TMS H-Coil vs. standard figure-8 TMS

Most clinics still use first-generation figure-8 coils. Complete Mind Care uses the BrainsWay H-Coil — here is what that difference means for you.

Deep TMS (BrainsWay H-Coil) Standard Figure-8 TMS
Depth of stimulation Reaches deeper limbic and mood-regulating structures Stimulates only the superficial cortex
Breadth of field Broad, helmet-shaped field engages wider networks Narrow, focal field over a small surface area
FDA-cleared conditions Depression, anxious depression, and OCD Primarily major depression
Targeting reliability Less sensitive to small coil-placement shifts Highly sensitive — small shifts can miss the target
Accelerated protocol SWIFT option — ~10-minute sessions, 6-visit acute phase Typically longer, standard-length sessions
Comfort Awake, drug-free, drive yourself home Awake, drug-free, drive yourself home

The H-Coil is BrainsWay's patented technology. Depth and breadth claims reflect the coil's field geometry; individual results vary and candidacy is confirmed by a licensed clinician.

How it works

Your Deep TMS journey, step by step

Most patients complete an acute course over several weeks. Here is what to expect from first call to lasting results.

  1. 01

    Step 1

    1. Comprehensive evaluation

A board-certified provider reviews your history, current symptoms, and prior treatments to confirm Deep TMS is right for you — and our billing team verifies your insurance.

  2. 02

    Step 2

    2. Motor-threshold mapping

At your first session we map your individual motor threshold to calibrate the exact stimulation strength and target location for your brain.

  3. 03

    Step 3

    3. Treatment sessions

You sit comfortably while the H-Coil delivers pulses. Standard sessions run about 20 minutes; the accelerated SWIFT protocol is around 10. You stay awake and drive yourself home.

  4. 04

    Step 4

    4. Timeline of results

Many patients notice change within two to four weeks. A full acute course is typically several weeks of sessions, with response building over time.

  5. 05

    Step 5

    5. Ongoing support

After the acute phase we plan maintenance and coordinate with your psychiatrist or therapist so your progress holds.

Deep TMS — your questions answered

How is Deep TMS different from regular TMS?

Both are non-invasive and drug-free, but Deep TMS uses BrainsWay's H-Coil, which reaches deeper and broader brain structures than the figure-8 coil used in standard TMS. That depth is why Deep TMS is FDA-cleared for OCD and anxious depression, not just depression, and why placement is more forgiving.

Does Deep TMS hurt?

No. Most patients describe a tapping sensation on the scalp during pulses. There is no anesthesia or sedation. Any scalp sensitivity usually fades within the first week as you get used to it.

What are the side effects?

Deep TMS is well tolerated. The most common side effects are temporary scalp discomfort or a mild headache, both of which typically resolve quickly. Because nothing enters your bloodstream, it avoids the systemic side effects of medication.

How long do the results last?

Many patients sustain their improvement for months or longer after an acute course. We build a maintenance plan and coordinate with your psychiatrist and therapist to help your results hold.

Can I work during treatment?

Yes. Sessions are short — about 20 minutes for standard Deep TMS, around 10 for the accelerated SWIFT protocol — and you stay awake and alert. You can drive yourself and return straight to work or school afterward.

What if Deep TMS does not work for me?

Deep TMS helps a large majority of completers, but not everyone. If it is not the right fit, you have a full team and other proven options — Spravato, medication management, and therapy — and we will redirect your care without missing a beat.

Is Deep TMS covered by insurance?

For most major carriers, yes. Deep TMS is FDA-cleared and widely covered for treatment-resistant depression and OCD. We are in-network with Aetna, AmeriHealth, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Geisinger, Humana, Independence Blue Cross, Medicare, Optum, TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare, and UPMC, plus 40+ more, and our billing team verifies your benefits before you start.

How long is each session and the full course?

Standard sessions are about 20 minutes; accelerated SWIFT sessions are around 10. The SWIFT acute phase can be as few as 6 visits, while a standard acute course runs over several weeks. Your provider tailors the protocol to your diagnosis and goals.
